The Favourite Website Awards People’s Choice Award 2008, Sponsored by Adobe, winner:
Description: You’re trapped in a haunted hotel. Through first-person POV, you use your webcam, microphone and mobile phone to try and make it out. To make it scarier, you have to play in the dark. Hotel 626 is only open at night.
- FWA comment (Rob Ford, FWA Principal): "I must say that I am absolutely delighted that Hotel 626 took the People’s Choice Award 2008, sponsored by Adobe. This was definitely my personal favourite site of 2008. The whole campaign idea is superb and the production level is absolutely top notch. You really get the feeling that no stone has been left unturned, right down to the amazing atmosphere created by the sound design.
One of the things that makes this site a very worthy winner is that it combines all the latest technology possibilities, like webcam, microphone and mobile and this is what FWA has and always will be about, future thinking and cutting edge websites.
So, congratulations to the team who worked on this and also to the client, Doritos, for having the progressive attitude that makes an unforgettable experience like this possible in the first place”

"It is a tremendous honor to be awarded the "People's Choice" site of the year. We at Goodby Silverstein & Partners tip our hats to our collaborators and new-found friends, B-Reel. Their help and willingness to pull off the impossible was instrumental to the success of Hotel 626. We promised our clients at Doritos this would be an experience unlike any that had been seen yet on the web, and the incredible group of people involved in this project sweat blood to make sure that happened. Cheers!"
- Niklas Lindstrom, Executive Producer/Partner, B-Reel:
“Thank you theFWA, thank you Goodby Silverstein & Partners, and most of all thanks to everyone who enjoyed Hotel 626.
This is a tremendous honor for us and the crown jewel for the entire B-Reel crew, who have been hard at work evolving our process of mixing live action, animation, and interactive storytelling. Over the last several years, our focus has been to bring all these disciplines together to produce experiences like the awesome concept of Hotel 626.
This project was our very first collaboration with Goodby Silverstein & Partners and we had an incredible joyride throughout the project. Hats off to the whole team at Goodby and big ups to Frito-Lay for supporting this campaign.
A few words from the PCA sponsor, Adobe:
"Congratulations to Doritos, Goodby, Silverstein & Partners, B-Reel, and DinahMoe for winning the FWA People's Choice Award 2008 for the Hotel 626 website. The 'only open at night' approach demonstrates excellent knowledge of the target audience, which is key to online success. Not only does Hotel 626 completely immerse viewers but it connects them with the Doritos brand in a truly innovative way. And to be recognized by your peers is a real measure of success. Congratulations! We're honored to be a part of this awards process and thank the FWA for another amazing year!"
