The effect I search for is for people to feel the web is not just to surf, but also to feel something new, to have a positive reaction viewing the web.

Please give us a brief bio of yourself.

For the question, how did you get to do this? I don't know yet, actually I don't know what to consider myself as, not a web developer, not a designer, not a computer wizard, not a flash master...maybe a bit of each, some in greater percentage than others, but I don't consider myself as just one thing. As for the person behind the name he is 29 years old from Barcelona.

What do you do for inspiration?

Understand the project and from there you never know...sometimes at work you get an idea, outside with friends, even those personal moments in the toilet can be inspiring.

Please list 3 of your favourite sites.

Too many favourite sites I surf to just pick 3, I'll pick three of the ones I mostly visit...

- www.Macromedia.com for quick flash support.

- www.Halfproject.com for generally good sites.

- FWA for the latest flash sites.

What do you regard as being your biggest achievement?

That's a big question...my personal project, myself, to be well considered by the community is quite a big achievement.

What software couldn't you live without?

I mostly use flash, photoshop and Outlook. Although, if I had to do something else, I could live without them.

What projects do you have in the pipeline?

For toormix the next big project is the Grec Festival organized by the city council. Out of 272 applicants, our proposal won the image of the festival, a cultural event with music, theatre and dance that is on from June to July 2002.

Every year a different city is invited to participate, this year the guest is the city of New York, which will bring its most interesting cultural works. The Grec Festival is one of the most important cultural events taking place at the moment in Spain.

Who do you rate as being the top 3 design companies?

I like their work, but that doesn't mean they are the top 3 design companies, who is on top of who? Hi-res!, designers republic, attik.

What effect on traffic do your new designs have?

The effect I search for is for people to feel the web is not just to surf, but also to feel something new, to have a positive reaction viewing the web.

What did your first site look like?

HTML site, not very graphical, with a lot of frames and colours. This was quite a few years ago, it isn't up, and I don't have any image of it.

What area of web design lacks the most?

Interface is for me quite poor. You can get very good design, an original interface or easy usability of the web, but only a few accomplish good results grouping the 3 of them together design+interface+usability.

Have you written any books, if not do you plan to?

No I haven't. I don't have immediate plans to do so, there are very good people out there writing good books, I don't have much time to dedicate to a book now, neither anything new to explain, although if any editor contacts me, I would enjoy the challenge.

What is the toughest thing you ever did with flash?

Don't really know if it was the toughest but yes, the one I most enjoyed developing. My personal site 8buit, experimental navigation system similar to the old DOS PC system.

Surfers forget about the keyboard once on the internet, so I thought of a keyboard interface, and what better than remembering that black screen that some people don't even recognize. Everything is typed (in some sections you use the mouse with the keyboard). Of course usability is really bad for users unfamiliar with that system, but I still got a good answer.

I received a peek of 12,000 visitors on one day, now reduced to around 300-400 daily visitors. I'm quite happy with that result considering I don't offer any kind of service, just a personal web.

Do you think Flash is here to stay?

The potential of Flash starts with the amount of web developers that use it, and for such a large amount of users that install the plugin. Can you imagine surfing the web without it? I can't, but surely one day it will be beaten. The internet is evolving fast, and it would be really sad to see another company have the privileges that Microsoft has for the PC.

How have you learned so many Flash/design skills and techniques and can you offer any advice for newbies?

With a lot of practice, and patience. How was that done? How can I do this?..Try, try and try...until you finally achieve it. My advice is patience and work. Check out some maths and physics books, they can come in very handy for new techniques.

What type of overcoat do you wear when Flashing, basically are you a labels man?

I'm not a labels buyer, I don't buy an overcoat because of its label, if I like it I buy it. I don't wear luxury labels, but a pair of levis jeans are labels, puma trainers too, and so on. It's difficult not to eat labels today.

It's been a privilege, Roger, thanks very much!

Thank you, and congratulations on your work.
