I'm never satisfied with anything I create and in my opinion that's a good quality to have because it drives you to do the best you can.
Please give us a brief bio of yourself.
I'm a native Nebraskan but I attended college in Houston, TX at the Art Institute of Houston where I received an Associates Degree in Multimedia in 1999. I am now located in Denver, CO where I work for Electric Rain, makers of Swift 3D.
I've been cranking out site presentations, ads and just about everything else for Erain for two and a half years now.

What do you do for inspiration?
To be honest, I check out other award winning sites and I learn from other peoples' masterpieces.
When I break apart how people made a website I like to study the overall design of it and question what it is I like about the site. Whether it be the color scheme, the crazy design that people incorporate or the motion of one particular 0bject.
I'll pull away from every site I look at with a new idea for design, motion or programming and when I find inspiration from others I'll put it into action and then make it my own by adding my personal style to it.
What projects do you have in the pipeline?
Flash Illuminations - This is an experimental site that incorporates Swift 3D and Flash MX. The goal is to show people the power of combining the two, for Real World Experiences.
Examples in this project include: A music video, chat room, virtual tour, a racing game, an experimental clip and 3D landscapes. This project should be out in late Feb.
Swift 3D Extreme Volume 2 - My Swift 3D Extreme Volume 1 was created using Swift 3D v2, Swift 3D MAX v1 and Flash 5. Now I am creating my new, personal archive of 3D experiments with Swift 3D v3 and Flash MX. This site will consist of roughly 5 to 8 experiments that will be posted as they are developed. This project should be released late this month but the example movies will accumulate over time.
Foley (Personal Showcase Site) - At long last I'm starting to develop my own showcase site for people to see the latest updates on my work and personal experiments. This site should be out in March.
Do you think Flash is here to stay?
Absolutely, Flash will be a dominant medium on the web for quite some time to come. It’s fast, creates small file sizes, the Flash Player itself is on 98% of all computers that have access to the internet and it's not just limited to the internet. Like Jakob Nielsen says, Flash does have a way to go but the features of Flash make it desirable and effective, the technology behind Flash is becoming very powerful and it will reach the expectations of almost everyone someday.
What are your views on design/graphic school. Do you think someone can get into the field without educational experience in a school environment?
I think that design/graphic schools are great for the person that is looking for direction in the career choice that they have made. They also give you a head start, as in they don't quite get your foot in the door but they will get your big toe in the door and that does count for something!
Who do you rate as being the top 2 design companies?
I definitely have to give props to www.2Advanced.com. The work that they create is amazing to say the least. Their clients are well respect individuals and 2Advanced certainly gives them the edge that they are looking for.
Xylem Interactive is another design firm that I feel gets the job done. Xylem is a local design firm that I have been in contact with several times. Andy Titus their lead Designer has extremely impressive skills and he is a very seasoned designer when it comes to knowing what his clients are looking for.
What is the most expensive thing you've bought in the last week?
Ha ha ha, I bought another p.o.s. car. A prime '91, Plymoth Acclaim. I can now add it to my collection of failing cars!
Any parting shots or pearls of wisdom?
I'm never satisfied with anything I create and in my opinion that's a good quality to have because it drives you to do the best you can. Always step back and ask yourself: 'Is this the best I can do?'
It's been a privilege, Jim, thank you very much.
