question Please give us a brief bio of yourself.

I’m a 24 year old designer from Ukraine, doing interfaces for the last 4 years, but started with print design for a 2 years. I love advertisement and video ads and that’s why I started it. But global digitalization brought me to interfaces.

What do you do for inspiration?

I observe. I’m fascinated by the complexity of details and genius simplicity of ordinary things, like a wine cork, umbrella etc.

Please list 3 of your favourite sites.

http://www.kennedyandoswald.com/ -  I’m very impressed by the strength of the grief feelings this story evokes and the way it is told.

http://capptivate.co/ - best practice of the behaviour animation, gives me an understanding of how things could work.

http://ffffound.com/ - source of daily inspiration, set of random images that  drive my imagination.

What do you regard as being your biggest achievement?

My marriage and the relationship with my wife is truly the greatest achievement of my life.

How many hours do you work each week?

50-70 hours

How do you relax or unwind?

I set my mind on the slow motion and drift off to an alternative reality, parallel universe, or a galaxy far, far away.

If you weren't working on the internet what would you be doing?

I would be a lumberjack in northern states of America, eating pancakes with syrup for breakfast, wearing a checked shirt. So that I already have a beard, I would grow a mustache also.

What's your favourite part of your job? What's the hardest part of your job? What do you do when you get stuck?

The favorite part is realizing that the interface is really useful and feeling this benefit that my work brings to people’s lives.

The hardest part is understanding what type of product originally designed to help people will really do so.

And when I get stuck, if I have time — I just put the work aside for a day or two and come back later knowing how to proceed; if I do not have time — I surf the internet watching the amazing projects done by others, ask myself if I’m a loser, always answer negatively and proceed regardless with even more energy.

What's the longest you've ever stayed up working on a project?

18 hours

If there are any pivotal experiences/decisions you could point to that helped shape your career, what would they be?

Moving from print design to interactive.

What software could you not live without?

Adobe Master Collection, specially Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign

Who do you rate as being the top 3 design companies?

What area of web design lacks the most?

Online systems of big data management are crying for it! At a sight they are all too complex, making unhappy and unwilling to use them.

Belief in what we do and confidence that we are on the right way.

What did your very first site look like? Is it still online?

Looked like crap :) I really hope it is not there any more.

I love conceptual, modern art, often visit exhibitions, theatre. Besides that I enjoy watching people, like a maniac :)

The web is getting out of the web. Do you find that thinking in digital solutions alone hinders you? Do you feel the urge to solve the problem using all mediums necessary?

I believe that digital has to be outside the web integrated in the everyday life. You cannot create something that will be useful “online” only. You have to create things that will be useful “on-mind”.

Looking 10 years in to the future, how far can websites go?

In the past websites were only available at points of access (home PC). Today’s websites are maximum portable, always with you. In 10 years they will be inside you. It’s Darwin’s evolution, baby.

What are your views on design/graphic school. Do you think someone can get into the field without educational experience in a school environment?

Professional education reduces the number of mistakes you make when you start as a designer. I personally never had any education, that is why I had all of those mistakes. But practice makes everyone better and some even perfect. If someone wants to be a designer — just be one, do what you love and make money of that, regardless education or absence of it.

What would be your ultimate vehicle to travel in?

Definitely a bicycle. It gives me an ultimate freedom of movement when only I decide where I wanna go and for how long. It’s like by foot only much faster.

When your company was just getting started, what did you find was most effective for getting new clients?

Giving them what they wanted, responding to their real needs.

What country excites you the most in terms of innovation?

Comparing to the rest of the world Japan already lives in future 20 years from now.

There must be a project that you have always dreamed of doing, what is it?

It’s BudgyPro — new version of Budgy, and second is a revolutionary travel guide app. Both projects help the person to move across the world independently from anything or anybody but himself.

What does the future hold for your company, or you as a person?

For the company, very common — success. As for me — I live in present moment and rarely think or anticipate about the future.

What are you excited about learning next and is there a long term challenge you are considering tackling?

I want to develop ability to foresee the future of users’ needs that all change so rapidly. Understand the evolution of the need itself and what drives this change.

What is the most expensive thing you have bought in the last week?

The checked shirt, one step closer to becoming a lumberjack and fulfilling my dream.

Any parting shots or pearls of wisdom?

Do not be an individual. People waste so many time searching for their predestination outside themselves as if there is a unique and wonderful destiny for each and every of us. Don’t look for it, just live it, do what ever you can every single day. This will make you happy.

It has been a privilege, thanks very much

It is truly an honor for me too.
